Broker Education

What to compare before opening a trading account

Look beyond headline features and understand entity, account, platform and fee differences when reading a broker profile.

Broker names are a starting point, not a complete description of an account. A global brand may operate through several legal entities with different products, protections and eligibility requirements. The details that matter are the ones applying to the specific account you would open.

Identify the legal entity

Read the account documentation and check the entity named in the agreement. A license held by one company within a group should not automatically be assumed to apply to every account offered under the same brand. Confirm information through the relevant public register when it is available.

Compare the account details

Minimum deposits, leverage limits, available instruments and supported platforms can differ by account type and location. A comparison table is useful for narrowing questions, but you should check the current terms before relying on a figure.

Review costs in context

  • Understand spreads and any separate commissions.
  • Check overnight financing where relevant.
  • Read deposit, withdrawal and inactivity terms.
  • Confirm supported currencies and payment methods.

Check practical access

Consider whether the platform, documentation and support channels fit your needs. Test available demonstration features without assuming that demo conditions reproduce every aspect of live execution.

A broker profile is informational. It does not confirm suitability, account approval or future service quality. Keep a copy of the terms you review and ask the provider about anything unclear before entering an agreement.
