I have been a Bitcoin Core user since 2011 and had mined bitcoins using the Bitcoin Core application during that time. I still have access to my original wallet file, which is in the .dat format. However, when I attempt to make a transaction using the Bitcoin Core transfer option, the application prompts me to enter the wallet passphrase. Unfortunately, since the wallet was created many years ago, I no longer remember the passphrase.

Since you still have the original wallet.dat and Bitcoin Core is able to load the wallet, preserve that file carefully before doing anything else. Make multiple copies and perform any recovery attempts only on a copy. There is no password-reset mechanism for an encrypted Bitcoin Core wallet. However, forgetting the exact passphrase does not necessarily mean that recovery attempts are impossible. The important question is whether you remember anything about how you constructed the passphrase: approximate length, number of words, patterns you commonly used at the time, capitalization style, possible numbers or dates, or a few likely candidate passwords. Partial knowledge can reduce the search space considerably. Do not post any candidate passwords, private keys, wallet.dat file, or other sensitive information here. You can also verify first that the wallet file itself is healthy and that the problem really is only the forgotten passphrase. The Bitcoin Core version you are currently using and the approximate version/year in which the wallet was originally encrypted would be useful non-sensitive details to add to the question. Most importantly, keep the original wallet.dat untouched. Do not modify it while experimenting with recovery methods.
